Many of our agents have local roots - some even go back generations. That's important, because it gives them a vested interest in the people and businesses that make up the community. We believe there's no greater job than helping our friends and neighbors succeed.
New York Life began issuing policies in Hawaii in the fall of 1879. It was the second life insurance company to offer insurance in Hawaii. The Honolulu General Office opened on April 14, 1909, with Frederick A. Wickett as manager. The first policy owner in Hawaii was William F. Damon, a 25-year-old Honolulu bookkeeper. He insured himself under two policies (nos. 138,646 and 138,647) for $5,000 each.
The office was located in the Judd Building, at Fort and Merchant Streets, until 1918, when the office was moved to the Bank of Hawaii Building, where it remained for 25 years. Later, New York Life Hawaii was honored to be an original tenant of the Davies Pacific Center, where it proudly served the community until 2024, when the building began its transformation into residential condominiums.
Today, we are excited to welcome clients to our new home at the Pacific Guardian Center—an elegant and centrally located space that will soon neighbor the future Kuloloia Skyline Station, enhancing accessibility and convenience for all who visit.
